Acupuncture:

What is it? Acupuncture is an ancient technique well over 2,000 years old. It is the insertion of very fine, flexible, sterile needles at specific points on the body. This is one of the most widely used tools in Chinese medicine.

How does it work? Acupuncture improves blood flow in the body, and by doing so, improves the function of the body’s vital organ systems. It stimulates the body to pay attention to the areas that need it the most.

Does it hurt? People experience many different sensations from acupuncture. Some say the insertion of the needle feels like a mosquito bite. Sometimes, you may not feel anything when the needle goes in. On very delicate areas like the ears, face, feet and hands, you may feel a slight sting that lasts for a very short time. We understand that everybody reacts to acupuncture differently and adjust our techniques accordingly. We always encourage patient feedback throughout the treatment and make sure you feel comfortable and safe.

Is it safe? Yes. When practiced by a trained professional acupuncture is safe. Needles are used once, then properly disposed.

Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbal medicine is a powerful and effective drug-free modality used to promote better health and proper function in the body. Individual herbs are synergistically combined to create formulas that can have a dramatic effect on the body. These herbal formulas support, balance, harmonize and regulate the body and mind.

Fire Cupping

What is it? Fire is used to quickly burn the oxygen inside a glass cup which is then placed on the skin. The lack of oxygen inside the cup creates a vacuum that generate suction when placed on the skin. The cups may be left in one position on the body or slid across the skin to affect a larger area.

How does it work? This is a technique we often use to help people with back and shoulder pain and muscle tension. It also helps to improve circulation and detoxify the body.

Does it hurt? No – but it does feel strange at first! Many people feel great relief from tight muscles after cupping.

Is it safe? Yes. It is important to be aware that cupping can leave temporary purple or red marks on the skin from the suction. These can last anywhere from 1-7 days.

Moxabustion

What is it? Moxabustion is the burning of the herb Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris). The practice of burning herbs and generating smoke to promote healing is used in many indigenous cultures. Moxa was burned in the cold climate of northern China to treat common conditions such as arthritis that were affected by the cold weather.

How does it work? Moxa is very warming, and can aid in healing conditions that are affected by cold weather. It is also very helpful for people who have sensations of cold, or a difficult time staying warm.

Is it safe? Yes.

Natural Cleansing & Weight Management

Our foods, our environment, our water and our air are becoming increasingly polluted. The body does its best to process these pollutants, but disease, stress, fatigue and a poor diet all make that job even more challenging. Just like we do a spring cleaning, or change the air filters in our car, the body occasionally needs a deeper cleansing too.

We offer a 21 day Purification Program through Standard Process that gently eliminates toxins from the body while replacing essential vitamins and minerals. No fasting is involved, people are able to eat regularly from a list of specific foods and supplied protein shakes. To learn more, please contact us via e-mail or phone.
